Who is
the manufacturer of these Water Ionizer units?
Dong Yang Science manufactures both the Technos and the Mavello
Water Ionizers.
When did production begin on each
unit?
Production began on the Technos Water Ionizer in 1993 and has
been produced steadily since then. Production began on The Mavello
in 2000.
What is the biggest difference
between the units?
Besides price, the Mavello produces stronger Ionized Water and
has more convenient features such as the ability to change directly
from one ionization level to another without having to go through
the other ionization levels.
What is the
greatest advantage of the Technos over the Mavello?
The Technos has a tremendous price advantage over the Mavello,
almost $200. While it does not produce quite as strong an Ionized
Water as the Technos, its' pH and ORP are sufficient levels of Ionized
Water to drink.
What are
the electrodes of each unit composed of?
The electrodes are Titanium, a very hard metal, coated (not
electroplated) with platinum, a very conductive metal. All Water
Ionizers currently manufactured use these two materials for their
electrodes. There have been claims that pure platinum electrodes
are sometimes used for the electrodes but this claim is obviously
false since this would not at all improve performance and would
be cost prohibitive.
Does one unit produce stronger
Ionized Water than the other?
The Mavello produces Ionized Water that is about 15% stronger
than The Technos because it has an extra electrode within the ionization
chamber.
Is this stronger ionization of
any real benefit?
Yes. The stronger Ionized Water is the better it is because
the stronger it is, the stronger a preventative health component
it becomes. However, it is important to keep in mind that once Ionized
Water reaches a pH 10, the water develops a briny or salty taste.
If it gets higher that pH 11, the water develops a taste similar
to that of chlorine. These tastes develop because of the high percentage
of water that has been Ionized Water.
Is it dangerous to drink Ionized
Water at these high pH levels?
It is NOT dangerous to drink them at this level; however, it
certainly is not necessary. Ionized Water should ideally be consumed
between a pH 9.5 and 10.0.
Are there any advantages of drinking
Ionized Water at these higher pH and lower ORP levels?
You will be consuming a liquid that has an extremely low negative
charge, or ORP (oxidation reduction potential) somewhere in the
neighborhood of -300 to -500 Mv. While it is not necessary to drink
Ionized Water at this level, it will not hurt you to do so. However,
be advised that drinking water with such a high pH may cause an
upset stomach.
Do either The Technos or The Mavello
have any shortcomings?
No. They each have advantages and disadvantages over the other,
but neither should be considered to have shortcomings. They are
both well-built, durable Water Ionizers that provide strong Ionized
Water.
What is the
Warranty on each of the units?
One-year parts and labors, which is guarantied directly through
Solutions. The unit is sent back directly to Solutions for
any repairs.
What is the
difference in filters on each unit?
The Technos has a one-micron carbon filter than removes chlorine
from the water and all particulate matter down to one micron, which
is very small. While this is considered excellent filtration, there
are finer filters than will remove anything in the water down to
.1-microns and even small. The Mavello has the option to be purchased
with the standard one-micron like The Technos or a hollow-membrane
filter, which removes particulate down to .1-microns.
What are the advantages and disadvantages
of this ultra-fine filtration?
The advantage is the removal of everything in the water to this
ultra-fine level. This includes many toxins, bacteria and viruses
that conventional filtration does not remove. The disadvantage is
that because of this ultra-fine filtration, they clog very quickly
and must be changed often.
How often does a hollow-membrane
filter need to be changed compared to a traditional filter?
At least twice as often because of the large amounts of material
they are capable of removing. This means they must be changed approximately
every 6-9 months, compared to a traditional one-micron filter that
needs to be changed every 9-14 months. The hollow-membrane filter
is also more expensive than the one-micron carbon block filter.
Why is it called a hollow-membrane
filter?
Because they use a membrane to filter particles unlike most
filters which use fibers, ceramic or carbon to remove particles
from the water. The membranes themselves are hollow, which allows
the water to pass through them.
Are they used for any other purposes?
Yes, they are used in kidney dialysis because they remove everything
from the blood to a very fine level.
Will the filter
remove fluoride from the water?
No, it will not. No filter will remove fluoride from the water.
Minerals are not removed from water through filtration. However,
since fluoride is an acidic mineral carrying a positive charge,
some of it will be removed from the alkaline side to the acidic
side of the ionized water. This will reduce the amount of fluoride
found in the alkaline water, which is the water we consume. Thus,
we can effectively remove up to approximately 50% of the fluoride
from the alkaline Ionized Water.
Some companies claim their Water Ionizers
will remove all the fluoride in the water. Is this possible?
NO. Absolutely not. The laws of physics
work the same for all water ionizers regardless of how they are
made. We would have to ionize 100% of the minerals in the water
to expect that 100% of any mineral would be removed to either the
alkaline or acid side of the Water Ionizer.
