Eagle
Spring Economy Reverse Osmosis Water System-50091
The
Eagle Spring Reverse Osmosis unit removes or reduces TDS (totally
dissolved solids), which can give water a salty or soda taste.
It also removes or reduces nitrates. It is conveniently mounted
under the sink and supplies drinking water to a dedicated spigot.
Osmosis is the passage
of molecules through the microscopic pores of a living or synthetic
membrane. Reverse osmosis utilizes water pressure to force larger
water molecules through the membrane while leaving the larger
molecules of pollutants behind. The pure water is fed to the RO
output and the water containing the pollutants (as well as minerals)
is passed to the drain.
RO is a very slow process
because water molecules must individually pass through very small
pores in the membrane. An RO membrane is tightly coiled within
a cylinder to provide a large surface area, but it still takes
several hours to produce a gallon of water. Storage tanks are
utilized to accumulate treated water for immediate dispensing
at a dedicated faucet.
The system consists
of a sediment filter to ensure that fine suspended materials in
the source water do not permanently clog the membrane. A carbon
pre-filter for the reduction of chlorine which can damage the
membrane. Carbon post filters are utilized to remove or reduce
toxic materials that pass through the membrane.
FEATURES
PRESSURE REQUIREMENTS
The reverse osmosis membrane requires a minimum water pressure of
40 PSI to operate. The rated output of the R.O. units is based on
60 PSI at 70 deg F. A reduction of this pressure will reduce the
delivery rating of the filter.
PRE-TREATING
It is important to know the condition of your water prior to installing
a reverse osmosis filtration system.
Hardness that is >
3 gpg, Chlorine, Iron and Magnesium content in the water to be
filtered will seriously affect the life of the R.O. membrane.
Feed water must contain less than .5 ppm of iron, manganese and
hydrogen sulfide.
This short R.O. membrane
life would be the result of the influent water and not the R.O.
product. These conditions can be properly pre-treated so that
the expected life of the R.O. membrane can be realized.
Only through testing
can these headaches be avoided.
Do NOT use this drinking
water system where the source water is microbiologically unsafe
or with water of unknown quality without adequate disinfection
before or after the unit.
